This presentation will discuss the importance of supportive care for implants and peri-implants tissues. In peri-implantitis, the presence of bacterial-induced inflammation around the implant has been an important component associated with bone loss. Unlike therapy for destructive periodontal diseases, predictable techniques to stop progression of bone loss around implants have not been elucidated. Therefore, proper, preventive maintenance of dental implants is essential for the health of peri-implant tissues. Implant maintenance depends upon frequency of visits, the patient’s individual risk, how these recall appointments should be structured and what individual techniques can be added to the normal oral hygiene regime to enhance the health of peri-implant tissues. |
